Rep. Beau Beaullieu to chair House and Governmental Affairs

The following is an article published in the Daily Iberian.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier released committee assignments today including an announcement that State Representative Beau Beaullieu (R-New Iberia) will serve as chairman of the House & Governmental Affairs Committee.

Chair Beaullieu says he is committed to educating his committee quickly and thoroughly given the need to call a meeting of his members early next week. H&GA will consider the bills related to redistricting when the Special Session begins on Monday, and Speaker DeVillier says is vitally important to ensuring Louisiana’s governmental operations and its democracy remain strong.

“H&GA has important work to do and I can’t think of a steadier hand at the wheel than Chair Beaullieu,” says Speaker DeVillier. “For the last four years, Beau has been a respected member of H&GA and a leader in the House chamber. I have no doubt he’ll be an exemplary leader of this committee as it addresses some very important challenges ahead.

Chairman Beaullieu and I acknowledge that a federal judge has ordered us to draw a 2nd minority congressional district and we intend to address that issue. Doing so allows us to focus our full attention on making Louisiana a better place for all of us to live and work, and that’s what voters sent us here to do,” DeVillier noted.

“Serving on H&GA as a member has given me a great appreciation of the issues that come before that committee,” said Chairman Beaullieu. “There’s nothing more important to civic engagement than laws that promote fair and honest elections as well as the smooth operation of governing bodies. I know the constituents in my district, and across Louisiana, care very deeply about the state’s future and I’m committed to doing my part to ensure it thrives through this leadership role.”
